About Chad Watts, MD

Dr. Watts is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, specializing in hip and knee replacement. He completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and his fellowship in advanced hip and knee reconstruction techniques at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, North Carolina.  After his fellowship, he was offered a coveted position to join the surgical staff at the Mayo Clinic but chose instead to return to Reno to be closer to family.  He performs roughly 1,000 hip and knee replacements per year, ranking him among the top joint replacement surgeons in the country.

He has nearly forty publications in the orthopedic literature related to hip and knee replacement, has presented at numerous regional and national meetings, and has received awards for his research from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the Mayo Clinic Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a reviewer for orthopedic journals including the Journal of Arthroplasty, the Bone and Joint Journal, and Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research.

Dr. Chad Watts performed emergency hip surgery on me after I dislocated my hip on the Pickleball court, and they were unable to get the hip back in socket in the ER. He was assigned my case without ever meeting me. At the hospital, we discussed my options together. My leg had dislocated 3 times, and it was too short from a prior surgery, plus I had a click when I walked! He resolved all 3 problems, and I now walk without a limp in many years! Thank you, Dr. Watts, for your skill, training and professional bedside manner, I now look forward to an active lifestyle again!

I was very scared of getting joint replacement, but the chronic pain I had before surgery already affected my life and daily activities (I couldn't even walk without an assistive device prior to surgery). Then I finally had right hip replacement 10 weeks ago and just very thankful that I had Dr. Chad Watts and PA Cory, who took care of my joint problem. Surgery was successful, now recovering pretty well also with help of physical therapy that they prescribed to gain my strength back. Dr. Watts and the rest of his team are very professional, accommodating and passionate with what they do. I can't thank you all enough for helping me get my life back and your continued guidance to my full recovery.
