Decreasing the Stress of a Visit to the ER
Decreasing the Stress of a Visit to the Emergency Room
Orthopedic injuries presenting in the emergency room are extremely diverse. When you, a loved one or a friend are injured it is an extremely stressful time with lots of information and decisions to make. Knowing the best course of action can be very difficult. It often seems that many things are out of your control.
One thing that you can control is getting the right orthopedic surgeon involved in your care. At all hospital emergency rooms in the Reno and Carson City region, orthopedic surgeons are on-call to treat orthopedic injuries of all types from the spine to the fingers to the toes. Having confidence in the on-call surgeon’s abilities is paramount. It is the patient’s right to request a specific physician or group no matter who is on call.
A Reno Orthopedic Center (ROC) physician is available for emergency room consultation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. We pride ourselves in getting patients to the right physician at the right place and the right time. Our on-call physicians are all fellowship trained in different aspects of orthopedic care. Fellowship trained physicians have spent an entire extra year of training in each discipline. Orthopedic specialties include trauma and fracture, hand and upper extremity, foot and ankle, sports medicine, spine, and joint replacement. ROC has 27 surgeons, the largest group in the region with the ability to provide the highest level of care to patients who have orthopedic injuries of all types. Some injuries require emergent surgery while others can wait and be done as outpatient. Making the correct clinical decisions are very important to achieve the best outcome and return to function.
If you, friends or family are injured and present to a local emergency room at Renown Regional Medical Center, Renown South Meadows, Northern Nevada Medical Center, Saint Mary’s Medical Center or Carson Tahoe Hospital, you can ask for ROC and one of our fellowship trained physicians will respond in a timely manner and get a specialist involved in your care as needed. Take the worry out of who will be caring for you or a loved one and rest assured that you are getting access to the largest, well trained and diverse group of surgeons in the region.
If you have an isolated injury, you can skip the emergency room completely and come to ROC Express, ROC’s dedicated musculoskeletal walk-in clinic. ROC Express is open in three convenient locations, Reno, Sparks, and Carson City. The Reno location is open 7AM to 7PM Monday through Friday and Saturdays from 9AM to 4PM. The Sparks location is open Monday through Friday from 8AM to 6:30PM. The Carson City location is open Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM. You can see a dedicated orthopedic professional and be referred immediately to the correct specialist the same day if surgery is required. These walk-in clinics have much lower wait times and cost than the ER with high patient satisfaction and optimal outcomes.
Take your healthcare decisions seriously and place your trust in the fellowship trained physicians at the ROC. Whether at ROC Express or in the ER ask for ROC and one of our surgeons will be on hand for your orthopedic needs.
